3 Ways to Prepare for Air Conditioning Season

The last chill of winter is leaving our air and spring has arrived… and that means it will be summer before we know it. Summer: air conditioning season. Are you ready? More importantly, is your home’s air conditioning ready?

We have 3 tips to help you make sure your AC is prepared to handle the stresses of the hot weather season. For improved air conditioner performance in Durham, NC for these upcoming months, contact Ideal Services Heating & Cooling and talk to our AC specialists. We can help you with repairs, maintenance, and new installation. One of our friendly technicians can find out what you need to achieve better cooling this season.

3 ways to prepare your air conditioner for the summer

  1. Schedule your annual maintenance visit: You should have maintenance once a year for your air conditioner and your heater from a trained HVAC technician. The AC visit should come in spring so you’re ahead of the weather. This session will tune-up your system, investigate all its components for wear and damage, check on the refrigerant charge, and tighten the electrical connections. When the technician leaves, you’ll have a system running at its best level. (Unless the technician advised repairs, in which case, jump to #2.)
  2. Repair all malfunctions, no matter how small: An important reason for having maintenance is that it will identify where you need to have repairs done. Don’t hesitate with scheduling the work; an AC operating with any malfunction will start to get worse almost immediately, and it will drain power. You want to have your system start the hot season with no repair needs at all.
  3. If necessary, schedule new installation: If your current air conditioner is more than 15 years old, you should consider having a new installation before the summer begins. Look over the summer utility bills for the last few years. If they have started to increase despite regular maintenance, your system is starting to run down. A replacement will provide you better cooling and major energy savings.
