5 Furnace Problems You Can’t Ignore

heating repair services

We all want our furnaces to be working right 24/7. But, there are times when problems pop up that cause the furnace to malfunction or stop working completely. These furnace problems shouldn’t be ignored because they may signal a larger issue or may grow into a bigger problem if ignored.

If you’ve noticed any of the five following problems, you’ll want to contact the technicians at Ideal Services for heating maintenance to diagnose any issues and fix them as soon as possible.

1. Furnace is Blowing Cold Air

You want your furnace to be blowing warm air at all times. When you notice lukewarm air, or worse, cold air, there is a problem. You don’t want to ignore this because there is something wrong that needs to be fixed. It can be something as simple as an air filter or something more involved. Either way, you want to get it fixed so that your house can be in a comfortable setting once again.

2. Furnace is Leaking Water

If you notice your furnace is leaking water, that is another sign that something is going on that you shouldn’t ignore. A line break or obstruction in condensation tubing can lead to a leaking furnace. When this happens the hot exhaust cools down, condenses in the pipe, and then leaks out. If your furnace has a built-in humidifier, it may also be leaking. When you see water pooled beneath your heater, the humidifier may be to blame.

3. Furnace is Making a Clicking Sound

Any clicking sound coming from your furnace usually means there is a mechanical malfunction. When you hear your furnace clicking, the spark igniter is trying to ignite the pilot light or burners. You don’t want to ignore this problem because it can lead to bigger, more expensive furnace problems down the road.

4. You notice the burner flame is yellow and not blue.

The burner flame should be a bright blue color if you have a gas heating system. When it’s yellow, there is an incomplete burn. This can be very dangerous because this is a warning sign that your furnace is producing carbon monoxide. We all know how dangerous carbon monoxide can be. There is no doubt that this is one of the furnace problems that can not be ignored and needs attention immediately.

5. You hear a boom when your furnace starts

When you hear a boom or bang when your furnace kicks on, there is a problem referred to as delayed ignition. Your furnace may be getting gas, but the burners aren’t igniting right away as they should. If this happens, the gas builds up inside the furnace’s combustion chamber. When it does light, it creates a burst.

These bursts lead to parts breaking down sooner than they should. This problem is especially dangerous if your furnace is on the older side and has a standing pilot. If you tried to relight the pilot by hand, you could get hurt. This is why you want to call the experts at Ideal Services Heating and Cooling to come out and look at the problem. Our technicians have the experience necessary to diagnose the problem and fix it safely.
