Recover Energy for Better HVAC Efficiency

daffodils Everyone wants to live comfortably in their own homes throughout the year. Not only do they want to, but, we believe, they deserve too. That is why we hate the idea of any homeowner having to sacrifice his or her comfort just to keep their energy bills manageable. The good news is that we have a solution to one of the biggest issues that plague homeowners seeking both efficient comfort and great indoor air quality: keeping the air in their homes fresh without wasting energy in the process.

That answer? The energy recovery ventilator. When you work with our Garner, NC HVAC professionals , we’ll assess your home and your HVAC system to determine if integrating an ERV into that system is the solution that you need. These unique devices are actually quite simple in theory, but they do need to be professionally installed by trained professionals in order to function properly. Read on, and be sure to let us know if you’re ready to start getting more from the energy that you pay for.

How Does an Energy Recovery Ventilator Work?

One of the biggest challenges in any home is balancing indoor air quality and energy efficiency, particularly during the summer when you are really trying to keep heat out of your home and in the winter when you’re trying to keep it in. Why? Because modern homes are often sealed up very tightly in order to protect energy efficiency. This is great for that purpose, but it can lead to trouble with indoor air quality.

When you seal up your home, your living space loses that natural ventilation that you want in order to keep the air in your house fresh. Obviously, you are not going to be opening a window when you’re running your heater or air conditioner. So what can you do?

You can use an energy recovery ventilator , of course! This is a mechanical ventilator that transfers heat between the incoming and outgoing airstreams. Why would one want to do such a thing?

During the summer, when you’ve really dried out your indoor air with your AC, the device vents out that low-quality air as it brings in fresh air from outside. The outgoing airstream absorbs heat from the incoming one, meaning that the air is effectively precooled. It also transfers humidity, helping to keep the air in your home of the highest quality possible.

The device is just as beneficial in the winter when you’re bringing dry, cold air into the house. In the winter, the device transfers heat to the incoming air, warming it up in order to take some of the strain off of your heater. In doing so, the ERV helps to minimize your heating costs.

When properly installed and serviced, an energy recovery ventilator really can be the key that unlocks the IAQ/comfort/efficiency equation. When you work with our team, you get the innovative solutions that you need in order to live in the comfort that you deserve.
